Calcium chloride has strong deliquescence and can actively absorb moisture from the air. It can even "snatch" water molecules from gases or liquids and combine with them to form hydrates (such as CaCl ₂ · 2H ₂ O, CaCl ₂ · 6H ₂ O).

Industrial applications:

Industrial desiccant: This is its most classic application. Used to fill drying towers and dry various industrial gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, etc. Compared to silicone, it has a larger moisture absorption capacity and lower cost.

Liquid dehydrating agent: used for dehydrating organic liquids such as alcohols, ethers, esters, etc., to remove trace amounts of water in petrochemicals and organic synthesis.

Moisture protection: Used for container transportation, as a container desiccant, to prevent the goods from getting damp and moldy due to the huge temperature difference during sea transportation.
